★★★★The comedian Omar Badawy was walking through London, dressed as a Viking, and minding his own business, on his way to a fancy dress party when he was caught up in Tommy Robinson’s Unite the Kingdom rally. As he’s Egyptian born, he got some abuse from some of the marchers, but one – John – thought Omar was on his side as he was dressed as a ‘pure European warrior.’ John loves the Vikings.
Omar brings genuine wit and humour to his account of growing up as the only Arab in a posh Church of England school and accounts of encounters with the police. He makes a plea for the Garys of this world. Mohammed may now be the most common boys name for newborn boys in England, but there are now no Garys. Garys are on their way to extinction! As an illustration, when asked, there was not one Gary in the audience.
Omar Badawy hits the spot for wry social commentary and observational humour.
